Caring & Sharing Thrift Store & Resource Center

C&S Front Entrance smallFounded in the early 1970’s by Helen Nachtrieb, for almost 30 years Caring & Sharing was a volunteer ran “God’s Closet”. Donated items were stored and given back to the local population for free or a small monetary donation. As with most small towns, everyone knew everyone and what their needs were.

As the population of Salida and surrounding communities grew, so did the needs of the people. Locations were changed often, but through the help of loyal members of the community Caring & Sharing kept up with the growth and became a relied upon tried and true friend to Chaffee County residents.

In 2002, with the passing of Helen Nachtrieb, the decision was made to incorporate the Caring & Sharing into a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation to ensure that the mission will continue, always.

In 2004, the God’s Closet that was in transit itself finally found a home at its current location. The Chaffee County Resource Center was organized as the outreach program which supports a local and transient population with food, clothing, supplies, gas, and occasionally help with utilities or rent/mortgage payments. Caring & Sharing also houses the Valley to Valley Senior Day Care and the Light House Soup Kitchen. We are now run by a community driven Board of Directors comprised of members from different churches in the area.

We at the Caring & Sharing Thrift Store and the Chaffee County Resource Center would like to thank you for your clean, usable donations. It is through the support of the community that we are able to continue with our mission!
